"Create Your Perfect Day"

If you're interested in creating a more happy and satisfying life, this simple coaching
exercise usually yields great results. The assignment is simple: Create your own personal
"screenplay" for a perfect daya day filled with excellence, complete self love, and an
abundance of what brings you joy. What would that day be like? Where would you be,
what would you do, who would be with you, what would you eat, what clothes would you
wear, what activities would you choose? Take a few moments and describe your perfect day.
As you look over your "screenplay" for your "perfect day," does imagining it make you
feel good? If so, what types of changes would you have to make to have your perfect day
at least once a month? Once a week? How about a "perfect day" almost every day?
Creating a "perfect day every day" is a process. Each small step we take on a daily
basis moves us toward a more happy and satisfying life. For example, who did you choose
to share your "perfect day?" These are the people who bring you joy and happiness, who
support you in having a great life. To increase the happiness in your life, increase
the time you share doing fun things with these individuals.
What types of activities you chose? Did you choose to have a massage, a meal out, or some
other pampering where someone else was responsible for "caring" for you? Your choice of
activities is often a good barometer of what is most satisfying to you in life. Many of
us put lots of effort into helping and supporting others, often at the expense of our
own energy and well being. Engaging in our own "self care" is the cornerstone to having
a great life.
Did your screenplay include a trip or an activity that is simply out of reach? Is there
a viable alternative that is within reach? For example, if you dream of sailing around
the world, but you don't have the funds to buy a sail boat, explore the possibility of
renting one for the day or taking a sailing class. If you dream of visiting China,
rent a travel video about China, watch it after a great dinner of Chinese food, and
end your day reading a novel about life in China.
In each case, increasing your happiness comes from taking a series of small steps
that bring you joy today. Now make a date with yourself to have "Your Perfect Day"
in the next 30 days.

- Spend 5 minutes each day expressing gratitude for my life.
- Take a long, luxurious bubble bath.
- Watch one of my favorite movies while munching on a bowl of popcorn.
- Spend time listening to great music.
- Spend a special evening alone with my spouse.
- Listen to the birds sing while having lunch in my backyard.
- Walk through the park, woods, or by the river.
- Teach my kids how to cook something new.
- Watch my kids play soccer or some other sport.
- Do volunteer work.
- Ride my bike, play golf, or tennis.
- Curl up in front of the fireplace with a cup of cocoa and a great book.
